Would you like to learn how to hit that HIGH TOWERING DRAW that Rory hit on 15 in the final round of the Masters?
I’ll show you exactly how to do it.
Rory hit 2 shots that we will remember forever.
- High cut through the gap in the trees on hole 7
- High draw/hook on 15 that everyone will remember
Are you wondering how he did it?
I’ll teach you how to hit the high fade, high draw/hook & a high straight shot for when you need them.
High Cut
On hole 7, Rory hit an amazing high cut through the trees that landed inches from the hole
To hit this shot, you need to do the following:
- Aim slightly open with your feet
- Ball position slightly forward of centre
- Swing along your feet line
- Slight out to in path with an open face to path
- Swing as hard as you can (FAST)
By swinging faster, you create more spin & more height. The faster you can swing, the higher you can hit the ball
This swing here is my normal speed swing with a 5 iron hitting a little fade.
This swing is me hitting a HIGH FADE (similar to Rory).
You can see I have much more speed when trying to hit the ball higher than a normal stock shot.
This is because subconsciously I knew I needed speed in order to launch the ball higher
High Straight
Rory is known for his ability to hit the ball extremely high. If you’d like to hit the ball a little higher, here’s what to do:
To hit this shot, you need to do the following:
- Square stance
- Ball slightly forward of centre
- Neutral path & face as much as possible
- Don’t let upper body get too far ahead of ball through impact
- Swing as hard as you can (FAST)
By swinging faster, you create more spin & more height. The faster you can swing, the higher you can hit the ball
This swing here is my normal speed swing with a 5 iron hitting a straight shot (it drew a little I’m sorry)
This swing is me hitting a HIGH STRAIGHT SHOT (similar to Rory just without the Majors or bank balance).
You can see I have much more speed when trying to hit the ball higher than a normal stock shot.
This is because subconsciously I knew I needed speed in order to launch the ball higher
High Draw/Hook
On hole 15, Rory hit an amazing high draw/hook around the trees that will go down as one of the greatest shots in Masters history
To hit this shot, you need to do the following:
- Aim slightly closed with your feet
- Ball position slightly forward of centre (for more height)
- Swing along your feet line
- In to out path with a closed face to path (more or less depending how much curve you need)
- Swing as hard as you can (FAST)
By swinging faster, you create more spin & more height. The faster you can swing, the higher you can hit the ball
Now, this shot is very tricky due to the fact you need both a hook ball flight AND height. For height you need the ball forward in the stance, but by doing that WITH an in to out path enough to curve the ball 30y, you run the risk of hitting behind the ball
It makes Rory’s shot that much more impressive
This swing here is my normal speed swing with a 5 iron hitting a little draw.
This swing is me hitting a HIGH DRAW (similar to Rory except on a nice Friday night not at the Masters).
I’ll also add this one in as well which is me trying to hit a HIGH DRAW. You’ll notice I hit this one a touch heavy as I said might happen with this shot.
It’s not as easy as you think
You can see I have much more speed when trying to hit the ball higher than a normal stock shot.
This is because subconsciously, I knew I needed speed in order to launch the ball higher
To summarise, to hit the ball HIGH, you NEED speed. You can’t rely on just trying to scoop the ball in the air with no shaft lean otherwise you run the risk of blading the ball, hitting it fat or topping it.
I hope this helped you and you now have a better understanding of how Rory was able to hit those shots.
Also note… he did them WAY better than I did in my examples. These swings of mine are from an upcoming shot shaping course I will be launching inside my Online Academy.
